DECEMBER 2022: The Overlooked Benefits of Little Joys
Homaira Kabir
"Our perpetual busyness not only harms our physical health but also deprives the soul of the joy and meaning that comes from feeling we’re one with the miracle of life. When we live like passengers on a bullet train, hurtling through life to get to our goals, we miss the glorious experience of being alive."
As both a parent and our Mental Health Coordinator, I feel this article in my bones. Assisting students with the mad dash toward culminating the semester, paired with the gloriously stressful preparation for the holiday season, we could all use a reminder to slow down. My wish for every member of our community is a bit of calm and peace during this season. Happy Holidays, Mustangs!

MARCH 2022: Discussing War with Children and Teens
Amy Joyce
'The day after Russia first attacked Ukraine, I passed the Russian Embassy with my 12-year-old son. People were gathered at its ominous gates, protesting that country’s invasion. “What have you heard so far about Ukraine and what’s happening?" I asked him. I was taking advice from experts who say when something scary happens, first ask how much our children know and go from there. My son knew a decent amount. And then I asked: "How do you get your information?”
“SportsCenter,” he said.'
Perhaps it's Tik Tok or Instagram for your teen, but the concept is the same.
